It lies in the south of the county of Alt Urgell and extends to the left of the Segre, also including the population centres of Les Anoves and Castell d’Oliana, running between the Turp range and the Espluvins gorge, in the north, and the Oliana range, in the south. In the east, the municipality borders the county of Solsonès.
Water is plentiful, as well as the River Segre, with the Oliana and Rialb reservoirs, and various rivers, such as the Reixà, the Flor and the Móra Comdal, the municipality is supplied with water by the Molí irrigation channeland there are various springs and fountains.
The main communications link is the C-14 transversal trunk road towards Seu d’Urgell.
